The ferrite disc magnets are almost always manufactured as axially magnetised ceramic ferrite magnets. We also supply fridge magnets which may have the same dimensions as some of the discs but they work differently. The ferrite discs have been magnetised along the central axis so the poles are at either end of the disc (a North on one side; a South on the other side). Ferrite fridge magnets are magnetised such that they have multiple magnetic poles on one flat circular face and the other side is magnetically dead – ferrite fridge magnets can clamp better when in direct contact but when there is an increasing gap the standard disc magnets will start to be better at clamping – the difference is due to the pole patterns (a wider / larger pole face clamps better through gaps; narrow poles clamp worse through gaps).
Ferrite Disc Permanent Magnets
The ferrite disc magnets are unplated as standard. It is possible to plate the ferrite disc magnets and to produce custom magnet shapes and even diametrically magnetised ferrite disc magnets upon request. We can also produce alternative grades of ferrite upon request – we supply custom magnets.
