Magnet used FOR rotary position sensor, magnets are available ex-warehouse.
Most disc magnets have their north and south pole on the flat circular surface (axial magnetization). The few exceptions, which are diametrically magnetized, are specifically marked.
The combination neodymium-iron-boron is currently the strongest available magnet material worldwide. Even with small areas the neodymium disc magnets achieve remarkable holding power, which makes them very versatile. In our shop you can find tiny, millimetre-flat magnets as well as thick discs with a diameter of several centimetres.

The Thin NdFeB Magnet is an axial magnet used with the linear magnetic position sensor, in order to measure small linear displacements. The magnet is mounted on the top of the sensor. The typical arrangement is shown in Figure 1. Material: NdFeB sintered magnet, Ni-coated
In order to keep the best resolution of the system, it is recommended to adapt the sensitivity as close as the Bmax of the magnet, with Bmax < Sensitivity to avoid the saturation of the output value.
If a magnet holder is used, this one ferromagnetic in order to keep the maximum magnetic field strength and maximum linearity. Materials as brass, copper, aluminium, stainless steel are the best choices to make this part.
