6-inch length, 1.250-inch width, 1.000-inch thickness, 0.500-inch channel width
Maximum pull of 62 pounds
Alnico Channel shaped magnets are available in both Cast Alnico 5 and Sintered Alnico 2 materials.
Very temperature stable, great for high
Maximum working temperature
May be ground to size
Does not lend itself to conventional machining (hard & brittle)
High residual induction and energy product compared to ceramic. Low coercive force compared to ceramic and rare earth materials (more subject to demagnetization)
Most common grades of alnico are 5 & 8
Cast Alnico 5 Channel Magnet can be used for various holding applications and also for removal of tramp iron from chutes carrying grains, plastics, glass, minerals & other materials conveyed in powder or granular form.
Alnico channel bar magnets offer high temperature and corrosion resistance as well as greater magnetic pull than ceramic magnets. They are unpainted Gray or Blue in color.
Alnico channels are magnetized as a horseshoe with the South Pole on one side of the channel & the North Pole on the other side.
HSMAG alnico channel magnets are made of cast Alnico 5 material. All dimensions approximate and as cast with pole faces ground smooth. Other sizes are available upon request. Contact us if you don’t see what you’re looking for in this brief listing.
Alnico 5 Channel Magnet Magnetizing is done after the magnet has been machined to the correct tolerances. Care should be taken when handling alnico material since it is brittle and can chip or break if dropped on a hard surface. Also, because it has a low resistance to demagnetization, it will lose power if it is stored improperly (poles repelling each other). For best results, store magnetized alnico so that pieces are attracting each other, or with a steel keeper.
Alnico is a very hard and brittle material and does not lend itself to conventional machining. The HSMAG employs experienced machinists and the proper equipment to grind alnico to its required dimensions.
Alnico magnets exhibit a high degree of corrosion resistance and are typically employed in applications with no coatings or plating.
Alnico magnets offer the best temperature characteristics of any standard production magnet material available. Alnico magnets can be used for continuous duty applications where temperature extremes up to 930°F (500°C) can be expected.
The lower coercive force of Alnico makes magnetizing a simple matter in most cases. In order to optimize the performance of Alnico magnets, it is advisable to magnetize the magnet after assembly with other circuit components.
