Samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets were one of the first types of rare-earth magnets and have now been commercially available for almost 30 years. While stronger rare earth permanent magnets have been discovered and made commercially available samarium cobalt is still the first choice magnet for adverse or high temperature environments.

High power ‘rare earth’ magnet material. Slightly less powerful than neodymium but works up to 200 °C. (Neodymium is usually only usable up to 120°C.)
