Sintered Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB), the most powerful Rare Earth magnet available today, possesses high energranging from 8MGOe to 52MGOe and wonderful coercive force. As the third generation of Rare Earth permanent magnet, NdFeB products are quite a bit less expensive, and are mechanically stronger and less brittle than SmCo, also density of NdFeB products is about 13% smaller than SmCo products. Because NdFeB magnets are more prone to oxidation than any other magnet alloy, for most applications, coating or plating the magnets is recommended.

However, neodymium magnets themselves are not good in resistance to oxidation and corrosion as ferrite magnets, SmCo magnets and Alnico magnets. Uncoated neodymium rare earth magnets go rusting quickly in external environmental conditions. Most of customers need neodymium iron boron magnets with plating and we suggest customers ordering coated NdFeB magnets as well. Commonly used coatings are Ni-Cu-Ni, Zn, Single Nickel, black epoxy and grey epoxy. Some customers choose composite coatings like Zn+ black/grey epoxy, Ni-Cu-Ni+ black epoxy for a much better protection on their magnets. A small number of users require uncoated neodymium permanent magnet for their applications of vacuum environment. Uncoated ones will be packed in sealing vacuum packaging to avoid rusting in transportation. Some applications have strict requirements on magnetism, the users ask for phosphating or passivating process on magnets instead of plating.
