What is pot magnet?
For pot magnet, the magnet will be encased by the steel shell, and the shape of steel shell like a pot, that’s why we called it pot magnet. The steel shell will increase its pull force by magnetic circuit design.
We can clearly see the magnetic field line’s distribution of simple magnet and pot magnet via simulation software. The magnetic field line of simple magnet distribute freely through the air. The permeability of steel shell much better than airs, so the magnetic field line pass easier in steel shell than in air. The magnetic field lines will focus on working surface by the leading of magnetic circuit.
The cloud picture shows that the magnetic field lines of pot magnet much more focused than simple magnet after contact with working surface, so its pull force also 32 times as strong as simple magnet.

The different parts of pot magnet
- Magnet: Unlike the simple magnet, the pot magnet only exposes one face. For pot magnet, the magnetization direction of magnet will via axial direction. The NdFeB, SmCo and ferrite are all suitable for pot magnet.
- Steel shell: The steel shell will help themagnet without crack and chip. Most of magnets are brittle, the steel shell can ensure threaded hole and stub insert to assembly. The most important role of steel shell is rise the magnetic field.
- Spacer: The spacer can be made of plastic, epoxy resin and brass. The spacer situate between magnet and steel shell toprevent the demagnetization of magnet from the steel.
