According to the data of China Rare Earth Industry Association, in 2018, the global output of NdFeB material blanks was 185,000 tons, and China’s output was 157,000 tons; in 2019, the output of sintered NdFeB blanks in my country was about 170,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%. On April 29, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that the output of sintered NdFeB blanks in my country in the first quarter of 2022 was 68,500 tons, a year-on-year increase of 30%.
With the country’s continuous emphasis on energy saving and consumption reduction, the penetration rate of NdFeB in energy-saving inverter air conditioners, energy-saving elevators, robots and intelligent manufacturing continues to increase, driving its demand for high-performance NdFeB permanent magnet materials to grow steadily. However, NdFeB also has high and low points. Low-end NdFeB is mostly used in magnetic adsorption, electric bicycles and other fields, while high-end NdFeB will appear in automobiles, wind power, and high-end electrical and electronic products.
According to statistics, about half of high-performance NdFeB is used in the automotive industry, and two-thirds of it is used in the EPS electronic steering system of traditional fuel vehicles. As the proportion of new energy vehicles increases, the number of motors required will increase, and the demand for NdFeB will also increase.
